1) What students will learn (topics):
It's my life! => Fun things to do after school, media; rooms and furniture at home, chores.
* Essential Structures: Verbs used to express responsibility, verbs used to express preferences and opinions, present progressive, present and past tense.
The Future is Now! => Careers, occupations, community service.
* Essential Structures: Future tense, Verbs used to express preferences and opinions, verbs used to express responsibilities (have to + infinitive verbs).
Taking Care of Me => Daily routine, body parts, illness and injury, medical advice, healthy living.
* Essential Structures: Reflexive verbs in present tense in all forms and familiar commands (affirmative and negative).Use of definitive article with body parts, Injury verbs in the past tense.
Oh, the places I will go! => Traveling, packing, places, geography, transportation, weather, emergencies, asking and giving information, phone conversations.
* Essential Structures: Present tense and preterit (all forms), direct object pronouns, future tense.
Students will also review the following topics:
It's all about me! => Introductions, personal information, descriptions of people's personality and physical characteristics, likes, dislikes; days of the week, months of the year, numbers, and dates.
* Essential Structures: Subject Pronouns, Verb and verb constructions (to be, to have, to like/not to like); Adjectives: Gender agreement, Negatives; Definite and indefinite articles, singular vs. plural nouns
Where I Spend my time => Daily routines, parts of a house, school (schedule, subjects, classrooms, activities, objects).
* Essential Structures: Possessive adjectives, present tense of verbs, prepositions of location.
Chilling => Sports, activities, places, time, numbers, weather, seasons.
* Essential Structures: Subject pronouns, immediate future, to want and to do, present tense verbs.
Getting Around => Places, community, people, transportation.
* Essential Structures: Prepositions of place, forming questions, to know, to be familiar with

2.1 Standards and skills: Students will attain the following knowledge and skills, based on the North Carolina World Language Essential Standards:
Standard 1= Connections to Language and Literacy
Standard 2= Connections to other disciplines
Standard 3= Communities
Skill 1= Use the language to engage in interpersonal communication.
(Interpersonal Communication: Person-to-Person Communication)
Skill 2= Understand words and concepts presented in the language.
(Interpretive Communication: Listening and Reading)
Skill 3= Use the language to present information to an audience.
(Presentational Communication: Speaking and Writing)
Skill 4= Compare the students’ culture and the target culture (Culture).
2.2 Language Components: In addition, students will learn Spanish while practicing and working on the following language components: Pronunciation, Spelling, Grammar and Vocabulary.
